Primary Choir Win ‘Gold’ at Bendigo Eisteddfod

Last Wednesday 22 May, our Primary Choir, consisting of our Jr Singers and all Year 3 students, embarked on an exciting journey to Bendigo to participate in the prestigious 98th annual Bendigo Eisteddfod. The Choir competed in the Primary Level Show Performance Ensemble of the 'Peter Ryall Memorial Choir Competition'.

Students performed two entertaining choral pieces, complete with choreography including ‘The Wellerman’ (NZ Folk song arr. Narverud) and ‘I Hear the Windmill’ (French Folk song arr. Schram).

The Adjudicator for the event was the well-respected Adam Przewlocki, one of Australia’s leading show choir directors, who is also a professional concert pianist, chamber musician and accompanist, and has performed in more than fifteen overseas concert tours. Mr Przewlocki gave praise and encouraging feedback for our Primary Choir, commending their beautifully prepared pieces and recognising their impressive musical talents. We met ‘excellence’ for the criteria of Rhythm, Diction, Ensemble, and Presentation.

Mr Przewlocki commented –

“You sing very well together! (In ‘The Wellerman’ performance) you demonstrated a very good contrast in dynamics and the choreography was excellent. A confident ending (in ‘I Hear the Windmill’) and an overall outstanding presentation.”

Receiving gold in our section was a momentous accomplishment for our Primary Choir and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students. We are immensely proud of our Primary Choir for their outstanding achievement and for representing our school so well.

HymnFest Participation – featuring Jr Singers and Ms Chandra Hale

It was a pleasure to be involved in Christ Church Echuca’s annual HymnFest again this year, an event celebrating hymns and showcasing members of the community.

Jr Singers performed two hymns at the event including ‘O Happy Day’ and ‘Jesus Strong and Kind’. Ms Hale performed two items on her French Horn as part of a community Wind Quintet including ‘Be Thou My Vision’ and ‘To God Be the Glory.’

HymnFest was a joy to be a part of and a wonderful way for us to share our musical gifts with the wider community.
