Campaspe Primary Soccer – Year 5 and 6 School Competition
On Tuesday 21 May, the school participated in the annual Campaspe Primary School Soccer Competition at Jack Eddy Oval. MAG entered teams in the A Grade Boys and Girls divisions, along with two teams in the B Grade mixed competition.
The A Grade Boys had eight schools in their draw and played some exciting soccer throughout the day. Coach, Paige Pinson was full of praise for the way the boys conducted themselves and supported each other to make the final. The final was hard fought vs Echuca Primary School, with MAG eventually winning 1-0. This is an outstanding achievement for the boys who were very well supported by Paige Pinson. Our A Grade Girls squad were fortunate enough to be coached by Kye Andersen and managed by Beau Starritt, and they responded to the encouragement and motivation, reaching the final vs Echuca, out of seven teams competing. In the final, the girls played some exciting and creative soccer, but Echuca were the better team on the day, winning 2-0, which meant MAG finished runners up. Our girls should be very proud of their overall result and way in which they supported each other, on and off the pitch.
Our two mixed teams made up of boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 competed against fifteen other teams, one in Pool A and the other in Pool B. The Pool B team was guided and coached very well by Tristan Watson, and the Pool A team by Mr Turner. At the conclusion of the pool games, teams were placed according to win/loss and goal difference. Neither of our mixed teams were defeated throughout the day! The B team finishing in 2nd place, and the A team finishing in 1st place, have not having conceded a goal for the entire competition.
Congratulations to all our students who displayed wonderful sportsmanship and endeavour, as well as being respectful to their opposition and the officials throughout the day. A huge thank you to our parent volunteers, Kye Andersen and Beau Starritt, our coaches, Paige Pinson and Tristan Watson, and Mr McMahon for his work behind the scenes making the day an enjoyable experience.
