Exploring the Possibilities of an Equestrian Program

In 2024 we are most excited to have launched a number of new developments that expand and amplify choice and opportunity for our students within our Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Programs.

Examples include initiating the development of Gunbower Estate, the establishment of a Tuesday morning Swimming Squad and planning for the activation of a Rowing Program – to name but a few examples….

Another most exciting development is our exploration of a potential Equestrian Program.

On Monday 27 May, an open parent information evening was held to ascertain interest within our school community. The program will establish pathway opportunities for our students to pursue their passions in Equestrian both within the school day and beyond, as part of our Co-Curricular offering.

The evening was very well attended and was facilitated by Moama Anglican Grammar teachers, Ms Stacey Briggs and Ms Melanie Sweetnam, both of whom are highly experienced Horse Riding Instructors and Coaches with extensive experience leading Equestrian Programs in other schools.

The purpose of the evening was to engage the voice and ideas of our families and students as we consider what our Equestrian Program might look like, in addition to Stacey and Melanie sharing their initial vision and focus for an Equestrian Program.

I am delighted to confirm that during Semester 2 2024, students within both our Year 6 to 8 Sport Pilot Program and our Years 9 and 10 Student Interest Modules will have the ability to elect to undertake a Learn to Ride program.

Moving forward, our vision is to create opportunities for students to join an Eventing and Jumping Squad and a Dressage/Show Horse Squad. These squads will support student confidence, growth and skill progression whilst also enabling students to regularly represent Moama Anglican Grammar at inter-school equestrian competitions, should that be of interest.

We are in the early stages of this exploration and I am committed to considering all possibilities, including Equestrian opportunities being integrated into part of our Master Plan for Gunbower Estate.

If you were unable to attend the parent information evening and would like to know more, or wish to value add to our current ideas for the evolution of this program, please be in direct contact with Stacey (sbriggs@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au) or Melanie (msweetnam@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au) via their emails.

Imagine the possibilities!
