What is the Science of Learning?

At St Joseph's our teaching practises are designed using current research. Recently there has been a lot of focus in educational research on the Science of Learning. This research shows that teaching practices that are aligned with how students learn are the most effective in improving education outcomes for all. It also shows strong evidence about the processes that occur during learning. These processes explain why some teaching practices are more effective than others. The Australian Education Research Organisation (AREO) has created a model to explain how effective teaching practices align with how students learn.

At St Joseph's we have used this research for some time and have embedded these practises throughout our policies and practises. This includes through the purchasing or designing of programs such as Multilit, Spelling Mastery, Number Fluency Bricks, Daily reviews and many more. These processes are reflected on and used during our weekly planning sessions to ensure all students are engaged and can achieve success in their learning.
