Year 7 Netball
On Thursday the 23rd of May, the Year 7 girls netball teams represented BHS in the interschool competition at Geelong Sports Hub. Both teams worked exceptionally well together, supporting one another, and cheering each other on. Your respect for the other teams was excellent – multiple umpires commented on your sportsmanship and respect for other teams. You should all be very proud of yourselves! Outstanding effort and performance! The A team had a close game in their grand final, going down to Western Heights by 4 goals in a really competitive match. The B team won their grand final! Special thanks for Shae Noble and Ella Gretgrix for coaching and preparing the girls for their matches – well done! All round an awesome day!
Junior Girls Footy
Despite not making it into the semifinals the girls did a great job on the day putting in a lot of effort and showing a great amount of support of their teammates. They won a consolation game against Oberon and quite a few discovered a new love of AFL. Despite the bitter cold, over all it was a fantastic day!
Senior Boys Footy
The senior boys football team recently competed at Herne Hill Reserve with high hopes after some solid training sessions. Kicking the dew off in the first game, they were completely outplayed by North Geelong going down by a few goals. This had the coaches of Fanning and Bumpstead contemplating handing in their resignation letters. Instead, they rallied the troops and flicked the magnets around needing a big win over Geelong High to advance on points and hope North Geelong lose. Ethan Skene went into the ruck and placed the team on his shoulders, competing like a man possessed before coming off with a blood nose. Sam Meaney took a massive hanger flying up like a pogo stick and the midfield of Belmont dominated to score a commanding win. With the results going Belmont’s way we advanced to play Grovedale in the Semi Final where they again played super and won convincingly. Archer Darken popped up for a few goals and nearly took a good speccy, climbing high before the ball arrived. Ethan ‘Wombat’ Holland continued to burrow into any contest he could. Taj Hinkley was solid down back. Into the final against a slick Western Heights who had a full team of Geelong Falcons players to choose from, the Belmont Boys fought out the game well going down by 4 goals with Jack Heron finding out why he belongs in the backline, spraying one of our only chances in front of goal out on the full. Tom Kiddle & Jai Natonewski went to task in the midfield to highlight the strength of Belmont High School up against a sports academy in the contest.
