Library

Last Monday author Sue Lawson visited Belmont High School and very kindly had a chat with our Premier’s Reading Challenge students. We had a good turnout of Year 7’s, as well as a few Year 8 students, and Year 9 students who are currently studying her novel ‘Freedom Ride’. We hope everyone enjoyed having a real author come to visit!

Geelong Regional Library will be hosting one more event in our library during lunchtime this term:

  • Monday 17th June - Board/Card Games and Blackout Poetry

The library will remain open during these times to those wanting to read and/or study individually, borrow/return books, photocopy, and charge their laptops. Those wishing to play computer games are asked to please play outside during these lunchtimes.

GRL is also hosting Tabletop Gaming for Ages 12-100 at Belmont on Thursday 4th July from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

Games include Sushi Go, Codenames, Azul, and Ticket to Ride. These events are free, however bookings are essential. Go to grl.vic.gov.au for more details.

Book of the Week

  Scar Town

by Tristan Bancks

Will, and his friends Juno and Dar, live in Scarborough (nicknamed ‘Scar Town’), a town which was relocated seven years ago to make way for a dam. The old Scarborough was drowned when the dam was built, but now it’s coming back, thanks to a leak in the dam wall. One house in particular is sticking up out of the water, and Juno is determined to explore.

What they find inside that house immediately puts them in danger, but all three friends are determined to get to the bottom of the mystery – and find out why someone keeps coming after them. To get to the truth, Will realizes that he must confront his own past and start asking more questions about his dad’s disappearance seven years ago – something he has avoided doing until now. What Will finds out will not only put himself in danger, but also his friends…

Scar Town is a quick and easy to read, and a thriller full of mystery and near misses that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
