Learning Walks:

During week 5, the Leadership Team has been participating in ‘Learning Walks’ throughout Maffra Secondary College classrooms.

What are learning walks?

Learning walks and talks are when a group of teachers visit multiple classrooms at their own school with the aim of fostering conversation about teaching and learning to develop a shared vision of high-quality teaching that impacts on student learning.

Learning walks help identify agreed areas of professional learning for the school, create opportunities for conversations with students and teachers about their learning, build relationships, identify agreed practices, help monitor students’ learning progress and are evidence towards achieving AIP goals.

Findings:

The leadership team found the learning walks to be very positive and valuable. There were so many wonderful lessons occurring at different times throughout the day. Students were engaged and could explain what they were learning.

Where to next?

Over the remainder of the term, learning walks will continue to occur with all staff. Staff will be invited to go into classrooms which will continue to build the culture of learning and reflection at Maffra Secondary College.
