Mrs Claire Ryan - Religious Education Co-ordinato
During Week 2, we welcomed the Catholic Schools NSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Conference Message Stick to our Boggabri community.
We welcomed the Message Stick during a liturgy at Sacred Heart School. We wish to thank Mrs Jensen and Mr Morley from St Xavier’s Gunnedah for attending and sharing their expertise with the students during the liturgy and the lesson.
Throughout the week, the students learnt about the historical significance of a message stick and were given time to create their own message sticks.
We visited the residents at Boggabri Home and Community Care to share the message of the CSNSW Message Stick, and the children shared their own message sticks.
Finally, we farewelled the CSNSW Message Stick during our Parish Mass on Saturday. We wish to thank Mr Hynch from St Francis Xavier’s Narrabri for attending and sharing the message with the Parish community.
The Message Stick will now continue its journey across the diocese, stopping next at Gunnedah.
We look forward to attending the conference hosted by Armidale Catholic Schools Office in Tamworth on 22nd-24th October with the theme; “Spirit on Country: Learning Together, Then, Now and Always”.
Here is a video that highlights our connection with the message stick at Sacred Heart School:
Last week, our Year 6 students participated in a practice Religious Education test. The results from this practice test will be analysed, and further targeted work can take place in the classroom to enable students to be fully prepared for the actual Religious Education Test, which will be conducted on Tuesday, June 18th. The test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions that assess students' understanding of Religious Education content covered throughout their time learning in a Catholic school.
