Port Melbourne Excursion

Our Year 9 Geography students visited the Port of Melbourne on Monday to explore how it connects us to the world and how the port affects our lives.

🌾 Did you know that on an average day 9500 tonnes of grain are exported mostly to Indonesia, Japan and China? And that they stop loading grain on ships on wet days, so they don’t compromise the product?

🚗 Did you know that about 1000 cars arrive daily in the port and that biosecurity risks like snails and seed husks can delay the delivery to car dealerships by up to 18 months?

💰Did you know that 40% of Australia’s trade goes through the Port of Melbourne?

It was fascinating for our students to see the grain vessel, general cargo ships, the fully automated container port in action, and to learn all about the challenges of the future.
