From the Principal's Desk

Welcome to Week 6

Hello to the amazing Rocky River Community! My name is Dani Clyde-Smith and this is my first week as Relieving Principal at Rocky River Public School. After a rigorous handover with Brad in the lead up my commencement, I am excited to finally be here, working with the kind and respectful learners we have at our school! I am humbled by the students, staff and parent community who have welcomed me with open arms as I rapidly get to know each and every student. I look forward to learning more about the families which make up our school community so please do not hesitate to come up to say hello!

Pyjama Mufti Day

We will be holding a mufti fundraising day next Friday 14th June to raise money for Carrie's Beanies4Brain Cancer foundation. Students are invited to wear their warm, winter PJs (and a beanie of course) to raise money for the charity - thank you to Pheobe (Year 5) for the PJ day suggestion. Gold coin donations will be collected on the day. In addition to this, Naomi (Year 6) and Mackenzie (Year 6) will be crocheting beanies which they would like to donate to Meals4Armidale who provide food and winter clothing to those in need. I am very proud of the generosity and charitable thinking of our Year 5 and 6 students who have collectively thought up this initiative and look forward to seeing everyone's warmest PJs and beanies on the day!

Congratulations Anna!

Congratulations to Anna (Year 5) whose artwork has been selected as a finalist for the UNESAP Let's Hang It exhibition with her artwork titled 'Flashwing'. Anna is amongst a group of 60 finalists in the 2024 University of New England School Acquisitive Art Prize. This is an amazing achievement given there were 553 art entries this year from 46 schools. The selection committee commented that there was wonderful expression of creativity and diverse styles represented which made the selection process very difficult, given the high standard across all entries. Congratulations Anna, we wish you success in the competition.

Premier's Spelling Bee

It's that time of the year again! We will be participating in the 2024 Premier's Spelling Bee again this year. We will hold a school spelling bee towards the end of term for Upper Division and Lower Division. We can then put forward one junior and one senior student to compete in the regional final in August.

External Validation

Every 4 years, all public, high and central schools undertake an external validation.  This is a process where we assess ourselves against the School Excellence Framework and provide evidence and examples to justify our assessments.  The process is not an audit, rather an opportunity to reflect and make on-balance judgements about our programs and systems.  As a staff, we are all working hard on preparing our submission which will result in a panel discussion in September.  Once we have completed the process, we will have a very clear direction in creating our new school plan for the next four years.

Assembly - Friday 28th June (Week 9)

Our next assembly for Term 2 will be held Friday 28th June from 2.15pm.  As always, we welcome all members of our school community to come along and join us.

Stay warm and have a wonderful remainder of the week!
