CROSS COUNTRY, DANCE AND BASKETBALL!

John Paul II students raced into Term 2 with the Cross Country events eventually held during PE due to weather problems on our planned carnival days. Although the usual crowd was missing, the boys cheered loudly for the girls races and vice versa. There were some very close and competitive races. A big thank you to the Mackillop students on work experience and the Teacher assistants, who helped out on the day.

Congratulations to our students who achieved a place and for everyone who completed the race and earned points for their house. This year Toepfer came up trumps with a commanding lead. With Gannon the winners of the Swimming carnival earlier in the year, it will be up to Connolly to fight back to attempt to claim the Athletics Carnival in Term 4.

A team has been selected to represent the school at the STCPSSA Cross Country Carnival at Rokeby Police Academy on 7 June. We wish them all the best.

During PE we have commenced basketball coaching with basketball Tasmania through Sporting Schools and another ball sport, netball, has been dominating the courts at lunch time.  The 5/6 netball teams have been practicing hard and showing some great skills and improvement as they prepare for their netball winter series against the other Catholic Primary Schools. This year, we will also field a football team for the first time in many years.

Special mention must also go to Dance club members on Wednesday lunch times. Run by Mrs Hickey, this is a popular lunch time activity and is much loved by its participants. Stay tuned for the performances from these dedicated dancers.

It is so exciting to see so many of our students being active and participating in the sports that John Paul II has on offer.  Our courts and Emmaus have certainly assisted with providing year round surface opportunities for the many sports that are played and on offer for our students.
