This week in kinder, we had a blast continuing our journey with number recognition and delving deeper into the world of quantities in maths and learning about the concept of a letter.

We created block towers to represent a numeral's quantity, solidifying our understanding that we count with 1:1 correspondence to show how much a number represents. We also started experimenting with the concept of adding and combining numbers to create new quantities and therefore new numbers. It was so exciting to see that adding more items changes the number!

In pre-lit this week, we began learning about letters. We played a game of ‘in the bin’ with the sounds /m/ and /s/, identifying when words start with these sounds—if they didn’t start with /m/ or /s/, into the bin they went! We also tried our hands at writing these letters on whiteboards, using a fun chant, “start at the top, go down and stop, over the gate, over the gate” for the letter m and “start at the top go around and stop, go around and stop” for the letter s.
