Dancing Through the Decades – Prep to Grade 3
This Term in the Performing Arts room our focus is Dance. Prep to Grade 3 students have begun a unit called Dancing Through the Decades. Each week, we will be exploring a different era of music and movement, giving students the chance to develop their coordination, rhythm, and confidence while having lots of fun along the way.
We kicked off the unit in Week 1 with some high-energy moves from the 2000s, learning routines inspired by current popular music . This week, we travelled back over 100 years to the 1920s and were introduced to the Charleston! Students loved the upbeat tempo and playful steps, and it was great to see so many of them embrace the challenge of learning a brand-new style.
It’s been a fantastic start to the unit and we can’t wait to see where our dancing time machine takes us next!
Bringing Stories to Life Through Performance - Grade 4 to Grade 6
Over the past two weeks, our talented Year 4–6 students have been diving into cultures from around the world as part of their assessment for our Storytelling unit. Working in collaborative groups, they’ve selected a country and begun researching how stories are told through dance, drama, and tradition. From planning performances to exploring traditional music, gestures, and movement, students are creatively bringing cultural tales to life, all while comparing them to Australia’s own storytelling traditions. We can’t wait to see these rich and imaginative performances unfold!
