ITALIAN

Welcome back to Term 2

We’re excited to continue our Italian learning journey with all our wonderful students. This term, we’ll be exploring new vocabulary, engaging in fun geography activities, and deepening our understanding of the Italian language. Grazie for your continued support!

The students in Years 5 and 6 have begun an exciting Geography unit exploring global languages and cultures. They are investigating countries around the world where Italian or English is an official language. Through research and class discussions, students are discovering the historical and cultural reasons why these languages are spoken in different parts of the world. This unit helps students make meaningful connections between language, migration, and culture on a global scale.

The students in Years 3 and 4 have launched into their Geography unit by exploring the world map and learning to label the seven continents and the oceans of the world in Italian. As part of our cultural focus, students have also shared where their parents and grandparents came from before settling in Australia, identifying which continents these countries belong to. This activity has sparked discussions about cultural diversity and global connections, all while building students’ geographical knowledge and Italian vocabulary.

The students in Years 1 and 2 have kicked off their Geography unit in Italian by exploring the Italian and Australian flags. They’ve revised their knowledge of colours in Italian and learned about the meaning and significance behind the colours and symbols of each flag. This has been a wonderful way to connect language learning with culture and identity, while also reinforcing key vocabulary in a meaningful context.

Our Prep students have started learning to count from 1 to 10 in Italian! The focus has been on correct pronunciation. To support their learning, they’ve listened to a lively counting song – which they’ve happily joined in with. The class is now looking forward to playing a fun counting game called Buzz, where everyone is hoping to be the winner. There’s no doubt about it – our Preps are very competitive and enthusiastic learners!

Cari saluti
