FROM THE ARTROOM

Term 1 in the Art Room

We have been busy in the art room this term, starting the year off with self-portraits in most year levels. Preps have made a plasticine rainbow and a self-portrait on a painted background. Grade 1 has been learning about correct placement of facial features to create their self-portraits. Grade 2 has created an abstract self-portrait and are working on watercolour identity banners. Grade 3 has made a zentangle self-portrait and Grade 4s have painted a self-portrait, mixing their skin tone with acrylic paint. Grade 5 are learning about 'value' to create 'form' and have created an oil pastel ice cream drawing and a gemstone painting. Grade 6 are painting a self-portrait inspired by Sidney Nolan's 'The Footballer.'

Art Time Capsule Envelopes

This year's Grade 4s began what was a new tradition when they started Prep in 2021. Every year they start their year in Visual Art by creating a self-portrait. These self-portraits are kept in the art room in a drawer and added to each year. At the end of Grade 6 they will receive all 7 portraits back. A time capsule of self-portraits created over 7 years! Every year level from Prep to Grade 4 is now part of this tradition, adding a new portrait each year. Please try to remember to collect your child's portrait if leaving MPS prior to Grade 6.
