Week 10, Term 1
Welcome back to the Grade 3/4 page!
We would like to thank our wonderful families for your support this term. We have had a great start to the year and we look forward to an awesome Term 2.
A reminder that you can contact us if you have any queries, questions, concerns or most importantly... positive feedback!
Our team (and emails) are as follows;
Congratulations to 5/6 Byron for winning our second Maths Challenge of the year, with 85% of students participating in the challenge! Our next Maths Challenge will be released in the first newsletter of Term 2 - be sure to keep an eye out!
MATHEMATICS
Our Applied Mathematics lessons have focused on identifying and classifying various 2D shapes. We explored regular and irregular polygons and are getting pretty good at explaining the difference! We also investigated different features of both familiar and new 2D shapes.
LITERACY
Over the past fortnight, we’ve had a fantastic time learning about ‘emulation.’ We explored the writing styles of authors like Mem Fox, Roald Dahl, and Anh Do, examining their use of descriptive language. We even tried our hand at writing in their styles—and what an amazing job we did!
During Writing, we have been reviewing our own work to recognise our strengths in ‘what worked well’ and identify areas for improvement. This process has helped us set personal writing goals and focus on working hard to enhance our writing skills.
TOPIC
We've been eagerly looking forward to the Design & Technology part of our Topic lessons!
Working in teams, we designed and started building our own 'balloon cars.' The creativity and enthusiasm in our designs have been outstanding. Our testing has gone exceptionally well, with many teams surpassing the 3-metre target in the design brief. It’s exciting to see so many future engineers in the making!
GUGU CLASS REWARDS
We've been eagerly collecting Gugu stickers to contribute to our personal, class, and whole-school goals! Reaching new levels in our classes has been exciting, and we’ve enjoyed celebrating our hard work and commitment to our school values with fun reward activities.
SENIOR ATHLETICS
A huge shoutout to our amazing students for their sportsmanship, kindness, and fantastic attitudes at Senior Athletics! We are incredibly proud of their respect, responsibility and resilience. A big thank you to Mr. Smith for organising such a great event! While we witnessed some impressive athletic talent, what truly stood out was everyone’s enthusiastic ‘have a go’ mindset!
