Science
As the term draws to a close, we are wrapping up most of our current topics. In Science, we have enjoyed learning about space, sparking curiosity and excitement among the students. This week, we explored constellations, discussing their significance, how they were used for navigation, and the myths behind some well-known star patterns.
To bring this learning to life, the students created their own constellation models by pinning holes into cardboard to represent different star formations. They then held their creations up to the window, allowing the light to shine through and reveal the star shapes. This hands-on activity helped them understand how constellations appear in the night sky and deepened their appreciation for the wonders of space.
Visual Art
To connect our learning across key areas, we also created space-themed artwork. Using chalk pastels, the students drew a variety of celestial objects, including planets, stars, galaxies, astronauts, and rockets. They explored blending techniques to create depth and vibrant colour effects, making their artwork truly come to life.
This activity not only reinforced their understanding of space but also allowed them to experiment with artistic expression. The results were fantastic, with each artwork showcasing creativity and individuality. The students were proud of their work, and I think they turned out wonderfully!
Writing
Connecting our space learning to English, students completed their final narratives about space. They published their stories on the computer and illustrated them by hand, bringing their imaginative tales to life.
For some, this was their first experience typing on a computer, and they showed great patience and determination as they worked through the process. Everyone did an excellent job, and I was impressed by their effort and perseverance.
I will print these wonderful stories and compile them into a class book so we can celebrate their hard work and creativity!
Reading
We have already seen great progress in reading this term, which is largely due to your hard work and commitment to regular reading at home. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning!
I encourage you to continue reading throughout the holidays to keep this progress going. Regular reading helps build confidence and fluency, making a big difference in your child’s development. Keep up the great work!
