Please encourage your child to continue to practise writing their name and writing numbers at home with the correct formation!
1 week to go! Thanks so much for such a terrific first term.
Initial Lit
At the beginning of this week, I sent home some decodable flashcards and decodable sentences in blue folders. Please encourage your child to sound out these words and attempt to read these sentences. With the decodable sentences, I have highlighted the tricky words in yellow! These words cannot be decoded. Your child may need help with these. Just reading a few every night will help!
Maths
We are starting our last unit of the term for Maths. Students will be learning to describe position and give and follow simple directions. Here are a few fun activities to try at home!
Left & Right | Positional Language |
---|---|
Arm Raise Have students raise their left arm when you say "left" and their right arm when you say "right." Start slowly, then gradually speed up. | Scavenger Hunt Give students simple instructions to find objects around the classroom using positional language. For example, "Find something under the table" or "Pick up the book on the shelf." |
Left/Right Dance Moves Play some music and instruct the students to follow dance moves using their left and right sides. For example, step with your left foot, then right foot, or spin left/right. | Animal Movement Game Use animal figures or stuffed animals. Tell the students to place the animals in different positions based on your instructions. For example, "Put the tiger under the chair," or "Place the elephant next to the book." |
Simon Says Play "Simon Says" and include commands like "Simon says, touch your left ear," or "Simon says, wiggle your right fingers." Only follow the commands that start with "Simon says." | Drawing Game Have students draw a simple picture based on positional instructions. For example, "Draw a circle on the left side of the page," or "Draw a square between the triangle and the star." |
Religion
We have been learning all about Easter with Mrs Bearman! Here are some of our students hard at work making playdough creations of a cross and the tomb Jesus was placed in.
