3/4 Learning News

What's happening in Year 3/4 space?

Dear Families,

As we wrap up the final week of the term, we are reflecting on all the wonderful learning experiences the students have had. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to in the classroom:

Literacy

We have concluded our exciting Matilda novel study! The students did an amazing job exploring the characters, themes, and events of the book. This week, we watched the original movie adaptation of Matilda and compared it with the novel. It was a great way to analyze the differences and similarities between the two versions, and the students had some insightful discussions about the story’s key moments.

Mathematics

In math, we’ve been diving into arrays to help us with our multiplication and division facts. Students have been working hard to understand how arrays can represent both operations and are now practicing their times tables to improve their recall speed. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and determination as they work toward instant recall of these facts.

Swimming

This week, the students have also been attending their swimming lessons, where they have shown great enthusiasm, effort, and independence, especially when it comes to getting changed. Their positive attitude and eagerness to improve in the water have been fantastic to witness, and we are so proud of how they’ve embraced this opportunity.

Easter Celebrations

As we approach the Easter holiday, we’ve been reflecting on the events of Holy Week. The students have been learning about the significance of this important time in the Christian calendar, and we gathered for a beautiful school liturgy to mark the occasion. We also had an exciting Easter egg hunt, which brought a lot of joy and excitement to the class. It was a wonderful way to celebrate both the religious and festive aspects of the season.

Gnarly Neighbours

After getting off the bus from swimming on Wednesday we were met with the surprising news that the 3-6s would have the Gnarly Neighbours incursion in the afternoon. Gnarly Neighbours are an organisation that runs free skateboarding sessions with children. The students showed some bravery and resilience while attempting some new tricks! Gnarly Neighbours will be at Avenel Skate Park on Saturday 5th April from 3-6pm if you want to go and join in!

As we head into the final days of the term, we want to thank all the students for their hard work and dedication. They’ve truly made this term memorable, and we look forward to what next term will bring.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable break!
