A note from Mr Jackson

Sports District Carnival

Thursday 27 March

Today, 50 students attended the District Sports Carnival. They leapt, ran, threw and hurdled against students from a range of other local schools. It was great to hear of students encouraging each other and giving their best effort. Many have attended early morning training sessions in preparation. The day proved a chance to develop a love of athletics and a healthy lifestyle. A special thanks to all our staff and students who contributed to making the day a celebration of competition and athletics.

Campfire Conversation

Wednesday 26

Thanks to Cooper for helping write this recount of what happened yesterday at the Campfire Conversation.

Yesterday, we went to pick up lots of students from other schools in a bus and then we went to Barrbunin Beek. The Koori kids got into a mob and sat down to listen to Uncle Ron tell us a story. He spoke about his totem which was the red-tailed cockatoo, his experiences growing up in NSW and dreamtime stories about the creation of the world. He showed us his two didgeridoos that he had made and explained how he made them. When he played them, he was able to make Australian animal sounds. At the end, we enjoyed dinner!

Works Begin Today on Basketball Court Seating

Thursday 27 March

Workers began replacing the aged timber slat seating located at the base of the retaining wall next to the basketball court. Over the coming days, we look forward to the emergence of tiered seating in the same materials used in the amphitheater outside the Prep Learning Area. Early next term, we look forward to the resurfacing of the basketball court itself.

We are grateful for contributions not only from FORPS and the North East Link Community Fund but also the wonderfully generous contributions of families who have made donations to the project directly through Qkr!

Bike/Scoot to School

Thursday 3 April

It has been great to see how many have been walking or peddling to school with our focus on actively travelling to school. Next Thursday morning we are keen to celebrate all those who are travelling on bikes and scooters. We look forward to greeting students at the gates with a fresh piece of fruit and are planning on reminding students of safety in the classroom. Its another wonderful way to highlight our shift to a more active way of moving around our community. Thanks to Banyule Council for helping sponsor the event.
