Italian

Welcome to Term 2 Italian
I’m excited for the term ahead!
This term, our Prep students will continue to explore the Italian language through playful activities such as games, songs, and rhymes. They’ll also be learning how to count from one to ten in Italian.
We'll enjoy the story Sogni d’oro which will help reinforce new vocabulary in context. I encourage you to share the story at home with your child by following this link
Some of the key words we’ll be focusing on this term include:una pecorella, un bacio, nonna, nonno, pizzicotti, fratellino, mamma, papà, a letto, and dormire. And of course, we’ll be practicing the numbers:uno, due, tre, quattro, cinque, sei, sette, otto, nove, dieci.
The One /Twos will explore the numbers 1–20 through engaging activities, songs, and games. They'll enjoy Italian classics like Caro Gesù, The Pasta Song, and Il caffe’ della peppina, while building vocabulary and practicing counting through interactive play, such as ball games and dice challenges.
We'll also continue simple conversational Italian with greetings like Come ti chiami and Come stai, learning how to respond and use them in simple role plays. They will explore fun cultural elements such as Italy’s children’s music competitions, with songs from Lo Zecchino d'Oro.
The Three/Fours will dive into the magical world of Luca the movie. Through songs, creative writing, and fun activities, they’ll explore Italian vocabulary inspired by the film. They'll create sea monsters, write poems, learn key phrases, and discover the cultural significance of icons like the Vespa. Each week features music, language games, and chances to build confidence in the Italian Language.
The Five/Six students will explore iconic symbols of Italian culture. We will begin with Italy’s rich wine-making history, learning about its regional importance and global influence. Next, we look at la moda italiana, researching famous designers like Giorgio Armani and creating fashion-inspired posters. To end the term, we’ll explore two Italian icons: the gondola and the Vespa. Students will engage through research, design activities, and presentations as they deepen their appreciation of Italian heritage.
Wishing all our students a wonderful term of learning!
