St Joeys School Running Club - Tuesday mornings before-school during Term 2
Term 2 is Cross Country Term! Whole School House Colours Cross Country Day is fast approaching, followed by District, Division and Region Cross Country for those who qualify. Due to commence next Tuesday from 8.10-8.40am, we will have our Running Club. The students were briefed about this in the last week of Term 1.
For all interested Year 3-6 students, we will meet at Sorrento Footy Oval each Tuesday morning from 8.10-8.40am for some running drills and distance training.
Mrs O'Shannassy will then help drive the students back afterwards in ''Bluey'' for those who have selected this option on the Operoo.
We will require the help of some parents to prepare the breakfast for our runners back at school. An Operoo was sent out today with further details.
Region Swimming Champs - Pia & Alfred!
In the last week of Term 1, Pia Brueckner and Alfred Hindle had their sights set on making it to the State Swimming Championships as they swam in the South Metro Swimming Championships, conveniently held at Yawa Aquatic Centre, their home venue. They both knew their competition would be of the highest calibre, all having trained just as hard as they had been. We are so very proud of their efforts in representing both St Joseph's School, the Phillip District and the Southern Peninsula Division. Well done!
Pia Brueckner was swimming in the Individual breaststroke and backstroke events for the 10 yr girls age groups. Finishing 2nd with a silver medal in the breaststroke, there was only a finger nail between her and the state qualifier. She also swam brilliantly in her backstroke, earning a bronze medal for 3rd place. Both of these were exceptional achievements and a true testament to Pia's hard work and early morning squad swimming commitment with Flyers and also the great attitude that she always demonstrates when she competes and though disappointed, she knew "there's always next year". You're a superstar, Pia!
Alfred Hindle, a seasoned state finalist swimmer, took to the blocks with a steely confidence despite the increasingly strong competition that he would be facing in both the Multi-Class Freestyle and Butterfly 12/13 yr boys events. Luckily, he has continued to climb in his swimming ability with his commitment to his Flyers training year-long and even shaving 7 seconds off his time at Divisions in the Butterfly from his District Championships time. Alfred won GOLD in both his freestyle and butterfly (Multi-Class) events and will now proceed to the State Swimming Championships at MSAC next week on Thursday 1st May. We hope to be able to view these races on the livestream as we have done in the past. All the best for your state swims, Alfred. You truly are an inspiration!
