Respectful Relationships News

Everyone in our community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally. We know that changes in attitudes and behaviours can be achieved when positive attitudes, behaviours and equality are embedded in our education settings.
Respectful Relationships is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire community, from our classrooms to staffrooms, sporting fields, fetes and social events. This approach leads to positive impacts on students' academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.
Together, we can lead the way in saying yes to respect and equality, and creating genuine and lasting change so that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
The EDSC Respectful Relationships Pledge:
"All members of our school community have a responsibility to stand up against family violence and the misuse of gender power and control. We foster relationships that are respectful, caring and fair."

Harmony Week - 17 March to 23 March
Student Reports
EDSC Harmony Week was a blazing success with activities running every day, and a lively mood encompassing the College.
Monday
Students were invited to participate in origami activities, as well as other arts and crafts, in the middle courtyard at lunchtime. Decorations such as streamers and balloons were around the school entrances and grounds, creating a festive mood College-wide!
Tuesday
On Tuesday a free dress day was held where Year 12 students were invited to wear cultural clothes. A sausage sizzle was also held during lunch time (thanks to Rotary Manningham) to raise money for a charitable cause. The sausages were delectable, and halal options were provided. An additional thanks to all Interact students who helped organise this amazing event!
Wednesday
Wednesday was filled with action-packed face painting, bracelet making and other joyful activities in the middle courtyard during break times!
Thursday
On Thursday, middle-school students were invited to participate in a futsal game in the stadium during their lunch break. Students had an exciting time playing sports and the competition ran extremely smoothly!
Friday
This year's Harmony Week was ended with a legendary lamington-sale, where stocks ran out and a whopping 300 lamingtons were sold. (All profits contributed to charity).
An astounding $2000 was raised for charity over the course of the week. 2025 Harmony Week was a week to remember!

Harmony Week was a huge success! The Events Captains worked incredibly hard to organise a range of amazing events for the week, and I’m so proud of our efforts. It was wonderful to see everything come together so well and having such a positive attitude throughout the school made it even better.

This year’s Harmony Week celebration was a huge success. Students got the chance to explore different cultures through food and a variety of activities. I thought the free dress day was good, but what was even better was seeing the Year 12s in their cultural clothing. I had an amazing time volunteering and participating in the activities, especially the sausage sizzle which ran quite smoothly.

A massive thank you goes to the Event Captains who organised all the activities and to the Interact Club, Arts Captains and Sports/House Captains that also assisted over the week.

RR Limited Series of the Week
Adolescence (M)
In an English town, armed police raid a family home and arrest Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy, on suspicion of murder of a classmate, Katie Leonard. Jamie is processed and held at a police station for questioning and then remanded in custody at a secure training centre. Investigations at Jamie's school and interviews by a forensic psychologist reveal that Jamie has been chronically bullied via social media. Other students, including Katie, had targeted him on Instagram, calling Jamie ugly and labelling him an incel. Jamie has come to internalise these things and lashes out when this worldview is questioned. At home, Jamie's family deals with the community's backlash against them as they work together to cope with Jamie's arrest and subsequent detention.
An important watch for parents and young adults.
