Languages News - Italian

Open Night

Open night is not only an opportunity to showcase our College but also an opportunity to show what amazing students we have here at East Doncaster Secondary College.  Our Italian ambassadors on the night entertained and amazed the families who came through and visited our display.  The students performed their recitation of “Mondo Pazzo”, a poem four of the five students had learnt 12 months earlier in Year 7, and still remembered.

The students moved around the room speaking with parents and answering questions about the Italian program.

A very big thank you to Ajeeth 8B, Aneesh 8A, Avyaan 8C, Aryman 8A and Mahan 7E for volunteering and making the evening a memorable one.  We could not have been prouder of these students.

Languages Day - Wednesday 26 March

Organising Languages Day is hard work but extremely rewarding, it is wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of the students enjoying themselves in the activities.

Students in Year 7 Italian were treated to the film ‘Luca’ in the morning. They were asked to take note of all that is ‘Italian’ and having just finished the unit on greetings, students were able to follow and understand a lot of the expressions and terms that were used in the movie.

At lunchtime the middle courtyard was buzzing with students lining up for a gelato from the Gelati Van, and students racing to get to the finish line trying not to spill the water filled glasses on trays in the Waiter’s Race.

Students gathered around the Spaghetti Eating Competition and cheered on their peers. It was amazing to watch these students, face down in a plate of spaghetti, in their endeavours to devour every last strand of spaghetti to finish first in their heat.

Aprons on and hands behind their backs it was an “uno, due tre, via!”  (One, two, three, go!)

So how long does it take to eat a plate of pasta without the use of your hands? For some students it was less than a minute.

Bravissimi to all those students who put their hands up and participated in the events.

Thank you to the Italian team who helped run and supervise the activities and then clean up afterwards.

And special thank you to the canteen staff who decorated the canteen with Italian and Chinese flags and offered a Languages Day menu for students to enjoy.

Una giornata fantastica!

As we approach the Easter period, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all families who celebrate, una Buona Pasqua (Happy Easter).

We wish studentsHappy Holidays and look forward to them returning in Term 2 all rested and refreshed.
