From the Principal

Hello everyone, welcome back. I hope you have had a wonderful break.
Last term was a fantastic term with many opportunities for our students and community to participate in. During the term, there were many occasions where families were welcomed into the College. The Parent/Teacher interviews were a fantastic opportunity to get together and talk about the most precious members of our community, the students at Mornington Secondary College. There was 15 percent more interviews than the previous year. The vibe was extremely positive and students have had time to reflect on their progress and what they need to do to achieve more in their subjects.
This term, there will be more opportunities where families are encouraged to join us at school.
Today we had our annual ANZAC day service. It is a great tradition at Mornington Secondary College. The number of guests and dignitaries continues to grow, year after year. This year we welcomed:

Our Captains will read the Requiem at the Memorial Park on ANZAC day.
Term 2 will also see planning and preparation begin for the 2026 new year. Soon students will be asked to select subjects for next year. We will be inviting families to find out more about the subject offerings at our upcoming Course Information Evenings, on July 1st.

Middle School
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 2! It was a pleasure to see many of you at the recent Parent-Teacher Interviews. I hope you were able to enjoy a restful and enjoyable holiday break with your children. I personally had the opportunity to visit the Gold Coast for a few days and appreciated the beautiful coastline.
We begin Term 2 with a full and exciting program for our Middle School students:
Year 9
Students will be participating in the Morrisby Career Profiling and Interview Program. This process, facilitated by Mrs Jones, Mr Doherty, and Kylie LeBrasse, allows students to explore a wide range of career pathways—some of which they may not have previously considered. It is a valuable opportunity for students to begin shaping their post-school aspirations.
Year 8
This term includes a range of activities, including upcoming excursions and Health Days. Mr Pirrie and Ms Rattue will communicate further details in the coming weeks. We were also pleased to recognise many Year 8 students this week with certificates for effort, academic excellence, and kindness. We encourage students to store these certificates in a binder, as they are valuable additions to their future résumés.
Year 7
The recent Neon Disco was a great success, with students thoroughly enjoying the evening. We are now looking forward to the upcoming Year 7 Camp, which has generated great excitement among the cohort. Later in the term, we will celebrate the milestone of 100 Days of Secondary School with a day of fun and engaging activities designed to reflect on the students’ journey so far.
As always, we remain committed to creating meaningful opportunities for parents and families to engage with our school community. The positive feedback following our recent Parent-Teacher Interviews has been most appreciated, and I truly enjoy meeting and connecting with you during these events. We continue to receive lovely thank you notes following Grandparents’ Day, which has clearly left a lasting impression on all involved.
Looking ahead, I warmly invite you to join us at the ANZAC Day Parade along Main Street, Mornington. Our Drum Corps will once again lead the procession to Memorial Park on Barkly Street, and we would be honoured to have our families march alongside us in remembrance.
Year 7 2026
A reminder to families with children currently in Grade 6 that applications for Year 7 placement in 2026 must be submitted to your child's primary school by Friday 9 May 2025.
Wishing you and your family a successful and enjoyable term ahead.
Warm regards,
Denise Leggett
Assistant Principal
Senior School
To students and families of the Mornington Senior School,
Welcome back to our Senior School students for Term 2. I trust our students took the opportunity to relax, recharge the batteries and get up-do-date (or hopefully ahead) in their studies.
It’s going to be a big term, with an 11-week term, made up of 51 teaching days, including an exam period for our Year 10 and 11 students and the VCAA GAT for any student studying a Year 12 subject in either VCE ATAR or VCE VM.
Term 2 is the last full term our Year 10s have before they complete course counselling in early Term 3. For Year 10s it’s a term full of information to help guide them and their families in their future pathways and the last real opportunity to demonstrate their learning strengths that may influence which subjects may be suitable for them.
There will be many events happening throughout this term and I’ve listed some major ones below. I look forward to our Senior School students quickly falling back into established and productive routines as they strive to get the absolute best out of themselves. They have the opportunity to do this on the back of the inspirational courage shown by the ANZACS; the very people we will be commemorating on Friday. Lest we forget.

A small sacrifice
Every year ANZAC Day comes around and as a community we love to have a day off with a cracking game of football in the afternoon, but I wonder how many of us, especially our young people really take the time to reflect on what ANZAC Day means to our way of life. It is about taking a moment to remember and acknowledge those who have gone before us, who have sacrificed, sometimes their lives, but almost always their way of life so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we do.
This year we will once again be marching down Main Street, I would like to extend an invitation to all students to come along, in their uniform, to join us for the march. It’s a small sacrifice for us to make to acknowledge and remember those who have served.
Where: Corner of Main Street and Queen Street
When: Friday 25th April at 8:45am, march commencing at 9:10am. Ceremony concluded by 11am.
Dress: Full School uniform.

ANZAC Day
This Friday 25th April 2025 is ANZAC Day, a national day of remembrance to commemorate Australians and New Zealanders who have served in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
ANZAC Day as we know it was first observed on 25th April 1916, as people came together to commemorate the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli, Türkiye, on 25 April 1915. This important tradition has now become an opportunity to stop and reflect on the sacrifice and dedication of all our veteran and service community, and the families who support them.
Australia recognise First Nations people who served in conflicts, and acknowledge their service, sacrifice and ongoing impacts on their families. The annual Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service is held during Reconciliation Week and is on Saturday 31 May 2025 at the Shrine of Remembrance. For more details and to register to attend, refer to Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service.
For more details, including about the dawn service and where to watch it online, refer to the RSL Victoria website.
Mornington Secondary College proudly support the ANZAC APPEAL fundraiser, whichyou can donate to securely online via the below link.
Today, as a school community, we proudly held an ANZAC Day service for our students, staff and guests. The day was well attended as we came together to remember. Thank you to all those who attended. Lest We Forget.
