Year 8 Feature

Year 8 has commenced the first term of 2025 exceptionally well. To date, Year 8 have been lucky enough to participate in Elevate Study Skills sessions and an English Writer’s Incursion. These activities were carefully designed to enhance students’ engagement with establishing and working towards meaningful long-term study goals, as well as developing their creative writing skills while fostering critical thinking and imaginative expression.
A key highlight of the writer’s incursion was the specialised genre workshops. During these sessions, students explored different literary genres, gaining a deeper understanding of their distinct characteristics, conventions, and techniques. Under the guidance of published authors, they were encouraged to compose their own creative pieces within the horror, crime and magic realism genres, allowing them to apply their learning in a meaningful and enjoyable way. This hands-on approach aimed to develop their confidence in writing.
In addition to the writing workshops, students will continue their regular English curriculum, which includes the study of key texts, analytical discussions, and structured writing tasks. These activities are designed to complement the incursion by reinforcing students’ ability to interpret and produce texts across a range of styles and purposes.
We encourage parents to support their daughters by discussing the genres they find most engaging and encouraging them to share their creative writing. Your involvement plays a crucial role in fostering a love of storytelling and self-expression.
We look forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm that these workshops will inspire.
