Bus Transport Concerns: The Importance of Considering Others While Travelling to and from School

The majority of complaints the school receives from members of the public are regarding our students not standing on buses for passengers, placing their school bag on the seat or ignoring requests from the public due to wearing earpods or earphones. From a school point of view this behaviour and lack of consideration for others is very disappointing as this does not reflect the behaviour of all Caroline Chisholm students. We also know the girls offer their seats and adults say no. Regardless of the adult’s response students have been instructed to stand whenever there is an adult standing.

The school continues to remind the students at year assemblies and via student notices of appropriate behaviour. Further to this,  to ensure the school is allocated the correct number of buses from the NSW Government students must use their Opal card to tap on and off. I would also ask parents to discuss with their daughter appropriate and respectful behaviour when travelling to and from school.

Compass: Access to Teacher Communication

It is great to see more and more of our parent community accessing Compass to communicate with their daughters' teachers. We would like to highlight to our parents that you have the opportunity to deselect which teacher/s you would like to notify. Please refer to the image below that shows you where to go to be able to deselect any teachers that aren’t required to be notified. Just simply click on the red X and that will remove the teacher from that list.

Further to this, please ensure to use this function when sharing sensitive information. In this instance this should only be shared with either the homeroom teacher and/or Year Leader in the first instance.

A Safe and Supportive School Environment

We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students. As part of our ongoing efforts to prevent bullying, we utilize a range of proactive measures, including PIVOT, Wellio, and SchoolTV resources, in alignment with the CSPD policy: Bullying of Students: Prevention and Response Procedure. These platforms provide valuable insights into student well-being, empower staff to address concerns early, and equip parents with tools to support their children.

PIVOT helps us track student experiences and identify areas for improvement, ensuring every voice is heard. Willio supports positive peer relationships and resilience-building, while SchoolTV offers expert guidance on bullying prevention and mental health. Together, these initiatives strengthen our school community, reinforcing a culture of respect and kindness. We encourage parents, students, and staff to engage with these resources as we work collaboratively to create a bullying-free environment.

2025 ACARA Student Background Data Collection Notice to Parents and Carers

Every year the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)

collects student background data (SBD) for all Australian schools in responding to the needs of local students based on language status and background. The type of data collected includes each student’s date of birth, gender, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status and language other than English spoken at home, each parent/carer’s school education, non-school education, occupation group and language other than English spoken at home. Please be assured that all personal information is removed from the data collected. As part of its compliance requirements, Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) is currently working to provide relevant details to the Catholic Education Commission of NSW. If you do not want your child's data included in this report, please advise the school by Friday 11 April 2025.
