YEAR 6
FROM THE CLASSROOM
Hello, my name is Jusmine from 6E. In Year 6, we love how we all play together, even if we are in different classes or hubs. We like how our teachers care about our learning and growth throughout the term. This helps us learn faster during lessons.
In Inquiry, we have been learning about technology. Students have been able to explore old laptops and the motherboard of a broken laptop, which they find really intriguing.
In Art, the whole of Year 6 has been creating sculptures using papier-mâché. We layer newspaper over the shape we are making. Once it is dry, we add more newspaper and then a layer of white paper. When that is dry, students draw on their sculptures with POSCA markers and create little designs, such as triangles, circles and much more.
In PE, we have been playing football and are now learning tee-ball. Tee-ball usually uses a metal bat, but we use foam bats for safety. The batter hits the ball and runs around the bases while the fielders try to retrieve the ball before the batter reaches home base and scores.
In Performing Arts, we have been learning dances from across Asia, including dances from Korea, the Philippines and China. Students enjoyed ribbon dancing the most.
In Week 6, classes 6E, 6A and 6F are going to camp on Monday. Their first activity will be walking along a trail for a long time. They will then settle into their cabins, which have bunk beds.

Hello, my name is Lucas from 6E. In Year 6, we have enjoyed all the amazing tasks. In Maths, we have been learning about integers. In Reading, we have been reading the book Once and summarising Chapter 5.
Week 6 is going to be exciting because the Year 6 students will be going to Camp Woorabinda. At camp, we will be doing fun activities such as canoeing and many other things. Don’t forget to bring a few changes of clothes in case you get wet or muddy. As it is winter, you might also want to bring a beanie or something warm.
In Art, we have been creating papier-mâché sculptures, and most of us are now up to painting. The artist we are using as inspiration is Romero Britto.

My name is Jigar from 6E, and I’m going to speak on behalf of the whole Year 6 level. Most people are excited about camp!
From Monday to Wednesday, classes 6E, 6F and 6A will be going to camp. From Wednesday to Friday, classes 6B, 6C, 6D and 6G will attend.
In Inquiry, we’re learning about different types of technology and components such as motherboards. What am I excited about? I’m excited about camp because it is next Monday! We’re going to have so much fun with our friends and enjoy some really good food. There will also be lots of different activities, such as walking along trails, sleeping in cabins with friends and doing archery.
In Art, we have been creating papier-mâché sculptures. We are still learning about papier-mâché as we make them, and everyone should now be up to painting their sculpture.

Hello, my name is Jefni from 6E. So far this term, I have enjoyed all the subjects we have been learning.
First, in Maths, we have been learning about measurement and fractions, and we have also started working with positive and negative numbers.
In Reading, we have been reading a book called 'Once'. We have read up to Chapter 5, and there have been lots of twists and turns.
In Writing, we have been creating descriptive narratives. In Inquiry, we have been learning about technology, including what is inside different devices and how to use technology safely. In Wellbeing, we have been learning how to stay safe on social media and why we should not share personal information with anyone.
In PE, we have been playing AFL, tee-ball and soccer. We have also started learning about striking and fielding sports.
In Performing Arts, we have been exploring 'Arts Around Asia'. We have learnt traditional dances from Korea, the Philippines and China.
In Art, we have been creating papier-mâché sculptures. We use newspaper strips and special glue to build a shape. Once it is ready, we paint it using designs inspired by Romero Britto.
In STEM, we are learning about electricity, power and shadows. In Auslan, we have been learning signs related to camp and asking others which camp activities they like or dislike.
An upcoming event for Year 6 is our camp at Camp Woorabinda. The first camp group includes 6E, 6F and 6A. The remaining classes—6B, 6C, 6D and 6G—will attend during the following days.
Other upcoming events include Hooptime, District Athletics and the Summer Gala. At the end of the year, we will have our Year 6 graduation to celebrate completing seven years of primary school!

Hello, my name is Armani, and I am in 6E. During this term, I have enjoyed all the subjects we have been learning.
We appreciate how our teachers care about our health and wellbeing. This helps us understand our learning and complete our work more efficiently.
In Maths, we have been learning about measurement, integers and fractions. In Reading, we have been reading a book called 'Once'. These are some of the key areas in our learning at the moment.
Next week, I am extremely excited about camp. I am looking forward to canoeing, visiting the farm and exploring nature on our walks.
Our teachers have taught us how to stay safe when using our devices. We have learnt not to share personal information and how to recognise apps that might be scams. This has opened our eyes and shown us that we should not share anything that might reveal personal information.
In Performing Arts, we have been exploring 'Arts Around Asia' and learning traditional dances, which I must admit is a lot of fun for everybody. In Art, we have been creating papier-mâché sculptures inspired by Romero Britto. We use newspaper and glue to build them up, which is messy but fun!
In STEM, we have been learning about electricity, power and shadows. One time, we even made our own shadows. We turned off the lights and placed a torch behind our bodies, which projected the shapes we made onto the wall or whiteboard. It was amazing!
At the end of the year, we will have our Year 6 graduation, which everybody is extremely excited about.

LEARNING INTENTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK
To ensure that all students continue to make progress and do not miss any important learning while camp is taking place, we will be implementing an alternative learning schedule for students who are not attending camp during these dates.
In Reading, students will revisit and practise a range of comprehension strategies, including vocabulary development, making connections, questioning, inferring, identifying the main idea, and summarising.
In Writing, students will revise the text structures and features of different genres studied throughout the year. This includes persuasive, descriptive, recount and narrative writing.
In Inquiry, students will participate in hands-on learning experiences using Dash Robots and SPIKE robotics kits. Students will explore coding, problem-solving, collaboration and critical thinking through a variety of engaging challenges.
In Mathematics, students will strengthen and consolidate concepts and skills taught earlier in the year. This will provide opportunities to build confidence, improve fluency and reinforce key mathematical understandings.
REMINDERS
Uniform Reminder
We are still seeing students wearing black pants or shorts to school. A reminder that Ramlegh Park’s uniform is navy blue. With the weather getting colder in the mornings, we also remind families that while white or navy blue sleeves are fine, long black sleeves and hoodies are not to be worn under school uniforms.
Camp Information
Our upcoming Year 6 Camp at Woorabinda is next week! Students have received a packing list and should now be preparing for camp.
Camp Dates:
- 6 AEF: 17th - 19th of August
- 6 BCDG: 19th - 21st of August
As camp is next week, please ensure that students are involved in packing their own belongings so they know what they have brought and can take responsibility for their items throughout the camp.
A Few Important Reminders:
- Smart watches, mobile phones, and other personal electronic devices are not permitted at camp. Any devices brought to camp will be confiscated and returned at the conclusion of the camp.
- Please pack warm clothing, students should also bring a spare change of clothes in case of wet or muddy activities.
We are looking forward to an exciting and memorable camp experience for all our Year 6 students!

Ooshies at School
We have noticed an increase in students bringing Ooshies. While we understand these items are popular and exciting for students, they are increasingly becoming a distraction during learning time and are sometimes leading to disagreements between students.
We kindly ask parents and carers to discourage children from bringing Ooshies to school. This will help students remain focused on their learning and reduce issues.
Please be aware that if Ooshies are brought into classrooms and are used or visible during learning time, they may be confiscated by staff and returned to students at the end of the school day.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to maintain a positive and productive learning environment for all students.
Year 6 Graduation Slideshow: Baby Photos Needed
As part of our Year 6 Graduation celebrations, we will be creating a special Graduation Slideshow. We kindly invite families to provide a baby photo of their child (aged 0-5 years) to be included in this memorable presentation.
You can submit a photo in one of the following ways:
- Send a printed photo to school with your child. The photo will be scanned and promptly returned.
- Email a digital copy directly to your child's teacher.
Please ensure all photos are submitted by the end of Term 3 (18 September).
Your contribution will help make this celebration even more special for our students and their families.
