YEAR 2

FROM THE CLASSROOM

Year 2 students have enjoyed another terrific and productive week of learning!

There has been plenty of enthusiasm across the classroom, particularly as students continued learning our new Talk for Writing unit, 'The Story of Pirate Tom'. Students have enjoyed implementing the different toolkits, exploring how adjectives, adverbs and verbs can be used to make their writing more interesting and engaging. They have been developing their vocabulary and experimenting with different ways to describe characters, actions and settings. It has been wonderful to see students becoming more confident and creative writers as they bring their own ideas to life!

In Mathematics, students have continued learning about multiplication, focusing on making and matching arrays to repeated addition. They have been working hard to solidify their understanding of multiplication by identifying how many groups there are and how many objects are in each group. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they use arrays and repeated addition to represent multiplication problems.

In Wellbeing, students have been learning about trusted people and identifying who they can ask for help when they need support. They explored the different people they can turn to at home and at school and discussed how trusted adults can help them feel safe, supported and cared for.

In Inquiry this week, students have been exploring the basic needs animals require to survive and how they adapt to their environments. They have also been learning about the Kulin seasonal calendar and exploring how the seasons are represented throughout the year. Students have enjoyed developing their understanding of how animals and people connect with and respond to the world around them.

READING

• We are learning to explore vocabulary, identify the main idea, summarise and make inferences using our text, 'Gorilla'.

WRITING

• We are learning to independently create and write our own narrative using our Talk for Writing tools.

MATHS

• We are learning to use arrays to solve division problems. 

INQUIRY

• We are learning to explore Australia as a country.

WELLBEING

• We are learning to compare personal preferences.
