This Week At OOPS

Public Speaking Grand Final Celebration
Last Friday we held the Grand Final of our 2025 Public Speaking Competition, and what an impressive showcase it was. Students from Prep to Year 4 stepped onto the stage and delivered thoughtful, creative and confident speeches based on their year-level topics. Prep students shared “All About Me,” while our Year 1 finalists spoke about “My favourite thing to do with my family is…”. Year 2 students presented on the topic “My favourite thing to do is…”. Year 3 students reflected on “The most fun I ever had was…,” and our Year 4 speakers explored “Someone who inspires me is…”.
Each student who participated showed courage and preparation. Their efforts highlighted the time spent practising, improving ideas and building confidence. The judging panel (including Maddie and Saskia from Year 5), who participated last year) were incredibly impressed with the clarity, expression and positive attitudes demonstrated by all finalists.
A huge congratulations to all of our Grand Finalists and Winners. You represented your classes and cohorts with pride and should feel very proud of your achievements. Medals for the overall winners will be presented in the final assembly for the year.
Thank you to the parents and carers who attended and supported the students. Your encouragement plays a strong role in helping them grow as confident communicators.
We look forward to seeing even more students take part in next year’s competition.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
Thank you to our incredible PFA and an army of parent helpers for donning an apron and helping at our Bunnings BBQ on Sunday. It is wonderful to see our community come together to help raise funds for our school. We are so grateful to each of the following people for donating their time:
Sean Maxwell, Sarah Alligan, James Copsey, Jeanette Molinaro, Nic Carr, Stuart Barnden, Jarrad Sherry, Jordan Wise, Simon Freeth, Tim Coombs, Suzy Leys, Claire Grattidge, Helen Carr, Mike Bergeron, Matt McCarthy and Elise Copsey.
A huge shout out to our amazing PFA for all of their organising, purchasing and coordinating. What a team!
Learning About and Fundraising for NF at Old Orchard
At last week’s assembly, one of our students spoke with incredible courage about his experience living with Neurofibromatosis (NF). Lewis shared how NF affects his daily life and why understanding and acceptance from others makes such a difference. His message reminded us of the power of empathy and the importance of creating a school where every student feels seen, included and supported.
As a community, we want to continue learning about conditions like NF so we can build classrooms and playgrounds where everyone belongs. As part of this learning, we're also raising funds for the Flicker of Hope charity through candles from the office ($5 donation) and through the Colour Run. For more information, please watch the video with Flicker of Hope's Zoe, and our very own Lewis from 3MP!
