The Pause That Powers the Next Step

As the school year winds down, it's easy to get swept up in finishing tasks, tying up loose ends and thinking ahead to what's next. Before we rush into goals for the New Year, we want to encourage families (and students) to pause. Rest is not wasted time—it’s essential for growth. When teens have space to slow down, sleep in, laugh and disconnect from the pressure of performance, their brains and bodies can reset.

This break is a chance to reflect on how far they’ve come, not just academically but emotionally and socially too. Let them rest. Let them play. Let them be bored. All of it is valuable. Because when they feel restored, they return in the new year with clearer minds, stronger motivation, and more energy to keep growing into who they’re meant to be.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”—Anne Lamott
