Music News

The hall has been bursting with sound over the last few weeks as students work on their instrumental skills across all levels.
Foundation Students have been learning about the timbre of music instruments - scraping, shaking, tapping, banging sounds and categorising them into their groups. They have consolidated their understanding of steady beats and have begun performing simple rhythms.
Year 1 and 2 students have been exploring pitched percussion instruments including xylophones and glockenspiels. They have been learning how to use the correct technique when playing a xylophone including using two hands, striking the centre of the bar with a slight bounce and performing rolls.
Year 3 and 4 students have been consolidating their playing of the recorder. They have been playing several short songs as a class and also worked in small groups to read and perform a melody to the class. This has been a wonderful experience for students to learn how to read staff notation.
Year 5 and 6 students have been learning how to play chords on the ukulele. They have learned how to hold the ukulele comfortably, how to strum to achieve the best tone and technique and where to place their fingers to make the C, F and Am chords. They then used this information to play along to songs.
