Picture story books often open up conversations and learning opportunities for what might be complex and hard-to-tackle concepts for children. This is true for conversations about mental health issues, which can at times feel awkward or be challenging to discuss. In this series, I will be introducing you to picture story books which will not only entertain but introduce children to a range of mental health issues which they or someone they know might experience.
Life can be all rainbows, then all of a sudden it might take a turn a become a wild mess! In “Some Days are Yellow,” we explore the life’s ups and downs in a poetic and whimsical manner. Whether it be an amazing day of sunshine, or a miserable day of rain, keep in mind that every day is a new day with brand new experiences, opportunities and amazing moments!

After listening to the story, you could…
| Good Day | Not so Good Day |
| Some days are theme park rides. | Some days are haunted houses. |
| Some days chocolate milkshake. | Some days are burnt coffee. |
Share experiences with each other about when you might have had a not-so-great day, but then the next day turned out to be completely different. What was something that cheered you up? How did it help you?
Ask other people about their day – are they having a good day or a not so good day? If it’s a not so good day, think of ways you could help to cheer them up.
