A message from the Principal

Today the 2025 NAPLAN results have been released on the MySchool website. I am pleased to share what MySchool is, why today’s update matters, and what our results mean for our school.

MySchool is a national online resource managed by ACARA. It provides transparent, consistent information about schools across Australia, including student background, funding, and performance in the national literacy and numeracy assessments. Families and educators can view school-level NAPLAN results and compare them with national averages or with “similar schools” that serve students from comparable socio-educational backgrounds. The site also shows progress over time, giving communities a shared and objective picture of how students are learning.

I am very proud to report that the 2025 MySchool data shows SKiPPS students continuing to achieve strongly in literacy and numeracy. As you will see in the table reproduced below, our mean scores across all domains in Years 3 and 5 sit well above the Australian average. The extensive areas of light and dark green on our MySchool chart illustrate this clearly.

Just as pleasing is the improvement we have made since 2024. Across the board, our students’ results have strengthened, and this growth reflects the hard work of staff and students over the past two years. We are also performing in line with schools that share a similar demographic context, which is an important marker of the high-quality, equitable education our students receive.

At the same time, we are always mindful that NAPLAN is only one measure of learning. It provides useful information about core skills in literacy and numeracy, and it is an important indicator of how well students are mastering foundational knowledge. But it is also a narrow slice of what matters. A SKiPPS education is far broader and richer than any single assessment.

Our school values curiosity, creativity, kindness, confidence, critical thinking, wellbeing, community, and the joy of learning. These aspects of each child’s development sit alongside (not behind) their literacy and numeracy growth. Our strong results are something to celebrate, but they are not the whole story of who our students are or what they can do.

This morning the ABC published an article highlighting schools in Australia that are significantly outperforming those with similar backgrounds by implementing high-quality explicit instruction and using data to identify and address gaps before students fall behind. The experiences of schools such as Springvale Rise (VIC) and Chatswood (NSW) show what is possible when evidence-based teaching is embedded deeply and consistently.

This is a direction SKiPPS has been taking for the past eighteen months. Our recent school review recognised the commitment of our staff to building a knowledge-rich curriculum, strengthening explicit teaching, and using assessment information in smarter, more targeted ways. It is encouraging to see that schools who have been on this journey longer than us are achieving remarkable growth. Their success reinforces that our work is not only worthwhile but essential.

While our NAPLAN data is already strong and improving, we know that with continued hard work, thoughtful reflection, and a steadfast commitment to evidence-based practice, our students’ outcomes will continue to climb. More importantly, we will keep nurturing the broad set of skills, dispositions, and values that help children thrive not just academically but personally and socially.

Thank you to our dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and our incredibly supportive families. The 2025 MySchool results reflect our collective effort, and I could not be prouder of the path we are on together.
