Our three Year 10 Engineering Gateways classes have had an incredible year mastering metal theory and sharpening their practical skills. To celebrate their progress, we introduced an exciting challenge: Who is the best welder in Year 10?
Thanks to the generous support of Queensland Welding Supplies (QWS), we were able to offer fantastic prizes for the top performers. A huge thank you to Zean Ferreira, QWS Sales Representative and former boilermaker, who not only donated the prizes but also shared expert advice and judged the competition.
The standard of work was outstanding—so close, in fact, that we awarded an extra prize for fourth place! Congratulations to these talented students:
Well done to all who entered! These skills will serve you well as you progress into the MEM20422 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways course in your senior years.

In other news, the Technology Department proudly presented a special award to a Year 12 student who demonstrated exceptional consistency and dedication in his MEM20422 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways course.
Congratulations to Lachlan McMillan, whose commitment to engineering went above and beyond. From assisting in the workshop to competing in Karting Challenges and contributing to the Formula High School program, Lachlan has been a true leader. His crowning achievement? Modifying a Go-Kart frame and installing a motorbike engine—all while sitting his external exams, in between his study of course!
This unofficial award, generously donated by our local DeWalt representative, is a well-deserved recognition of Lachlan’s passion and perseverance.
