Classroom Reports

Foundation
This week, we stepped into the magical world of fairy tales. Children enjoyed listening to well-known stories and discussing the characters, settings, and events.
As part of our writing focus, we practised creating complete sentences, remembering to use a capital letter at the beginning, finger spaces between words, and a full stop at the end.
We also worked on identifying and using verbs (action words). Students had fun spotting these in stories and using them in their own sentences inspired by fairy-tale characters.
In Maths, we explored the duration of events, noticing which activities take a long time and which take a short time. Students compared the results using words such as shorter, longer, and shortest. These hands-on activities helped deepen their understanding of comparative language.

Year 3/4A
It’s been a wonderfully busy few weeks in Grade 3/4, and we’ve loved every moment of it together. Students have thrown themselves into a range of activities, from robotics with Miss Mclean, cooking with Miss Douglass and our CFA excursion!
Students responded well to these routine changes and participated exceptionally. We have also welcomed a new student into our classroom, Elijah King. Students have supported Eli in feeling comfortable and developing new friendships. The things you love to see!
Additionally, our swimming sessions are fast approaching to finish off our school year. This will be conducted during week 10 (a form will be sent home soon with more details).
Mr Campbell, Classroom Teacher
Year 5 & 6
The Grade 5/6 students have been thoroughly enjoying the Bike Education Program. Thankyou to Mr McCallum for implementing the program, along with the support of ES Staff. It has been great to see the children all embrace the challenges and new learnings, with a smile.
Over the next few weeks, we have a few extra activities like Grade 6 transition and Graduation (please return your attendance slip), puberty lessons and school swimming program.
The Grade 5 students have been forming relationships for 2026, with the future foundation students. Collectively, they've been very supportive and encouraging to the younger students.
Have a great week,
Carlie Turnbull and Mel Young, Classroom Teachers.
STEM
Years 3–6 Begin Coding with Ozobot Evos!
This week our upper primary students welcomed a new set of Ozobot Evo robots to the Science and Digital Technologies room. After the success of the Toyota Robotics Kit, we wanted to give students another exciting way to explore algorithmic thinking.
The Evos can light up, play sounds and follow coded paths, giving students a fun, hands-on way to learn how sequences, instructions and problem-solving work in robotics. Classes are already experimenting with making the robots move, react and navigate colourful tracks.
We’re excited to see the amazing ideas our young coders will bring to life with the Ozobot Evos in the weeks ahead!

Year 8 Humanities - The Viking Hoard Excursion
Our Year 8 students were fortunate to experience a truly rare and enriching learning opportunity with their visit to the Galloway Hoard exhibition. This extraordinary collection only discovered in 2014 offered students the chance to examine real artefacts and uncover the stories they hold.
Before entering the exhibition, students engaged in hands-on investigation, exploring replica items and constructing their own interpretations of how treasures from as far as Asia found their way to Scotland. Their curiosity, teamwork and thoughtful questioning were impressive throughout the day.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented our school. A warm thank-you to Miss Graham and Miss MacKinley for their support and supervision.

Farewell and Best Wishes to Miss MacKinley
We extend our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Miss MacKinley, who has been a wonderful addition to our classes over the past three weeks. Her enthusiasm, professionalism and warm rapport with students have made a truly positive impact.
We have no doubt she will make an outstanding teacher in the years ahead, and we wish her every success in her next chapter.
We hope she will visit us again soon!
Year 8B and Year 9's
A Huge Return to Energy Breakthrough!
For the first time since 2016, Wedderburn College proudly returned to compete in Energy Breakthrough in Maryborough. Our Year 8 team demonstrated outstanding effort, teamwork and resilience across the entire event. They were involved in design judging, scrutineering to ensure the trike met all safety regulations, and presentations explaining our build and journey, before heading into practice sessions and finally the full 24-hour endurance race — our first time competing in that category in 17 years!
This achievement began well before race day, with our VM students involved in designing and constructing the trike throughout Terms 3 and 4. Their commitment, creativity and problem–solving gave the riders a strong and reliable trike to take onto the track — and it paid off, with the trike suffering only one minor mechanical issue all weekend (a broken gear cable, quickly repaired and back on track in no time).
Our riders performed exceptionally. Blaz recorded both the fastest lap and the most laps completed, while Jack, Jimmy and Will also rode with impressive consistency and determination. Despite some wet and challenging conditions, Lily and Aysha delivered strong riding stints during the night, showing excellent stamina and commitment as fatigue began to set in.
There were some memorable moments as well — including Gypsy’s minor crash, which resulted in a temporary Return to Pits sticker for the trike. Fortunately, both Gypsy and the trike were completely fine, and she showed great resilience by returning to the track and completing several more impressive riding stints. Fantastic work, Gypsy!
We also extend special recognition to Talarna, our team captain, who led with maturity, composure and positivity all weekend. After finishing one of her riding stints, she even stepped straight into an interview with former Wedderburn Primary School Principal, Dan Leddin, while cooling down on the exercise bike.
Behind the scenes, the pit crew of Flynn and Wayde worked tirelessly throughout the event — assisting with rider changeovers, ensuring seatbelts were secure, and swapping out drink bottles. Ryan and Charles also provided valuable support in the pits as backup riders, helping the team stay organised.
Thank You to Our Support Crew
This event was made possible through an incredible team effort:
- Mr Braybrook — the driving force behind our return to Energy Breakthrough. His organisation, knowledge and countless hours of preparation made this weekend possible.
- Mr Tom — whose prior Energy Breakthrough experience proved invaluable, providing technical guidance, support and expertise throughout the year, including helping train and prepare the team leading into the event.
- Miss M — not only supported the team trackside, but also kept everyone updated through social media with race coverage, photos and results.
- Kylie — for catering across the weekend and keeping everyone fed, hydrated and smiling.
- Mr G - providing support for Mr Braybrook and Mr Tom, and being Kylie’s official food tester
- Toni, Gabby, Mr Fowles and the Finch family — for their huge contribution to transport, setup, pack–up and anything else that needed doing.
- Adele — for safely driving the bus home after a very long weekend of racing!
A massive thank you also goes to all of our generous sponsors, whose support made this year’s return to Energy Breakthrough possible. Your generosity helped our students experience something memorable, exciting and rewarding — we are incredibly grateful.
Overall, it was a fantastic return to Energy Breakthrough — full of teamwork, persistence, support and excitement from start to finish. Our students represented Wedderburn College with pride, resilience and spirit, and we can’t wait to build on this success as we head toward the 2026 event.

Year 11
It’s Week 4 Already!
Time is flying by, and our Year 11 students are deep into Term 4 with plenty happening both in and out of the classroom. Students are busy completing SACs and finalising their studies, while our Unit 3 & 4 students are about to commence their exams. We wish all of them thevery best of luck — your effort and persistence will pay off!
Our VM students have been doing a fantastic job in their work placements and have also been lending a hand with preparations for next months, Energy Breakthrough. Their teamwork and reliability have been outstanding — great work, everyone!
Camp forms should be out this week as planning ramps up for our end-of-year celebration. Highlights will include the famous MasterChef Challenge and a surfing session, promising a fantastic mix of teamwork, creativity, and fun as we wrap up 2025 and start thinking ahead to2026.
We’re also looking forward to finding out who will take on leadership positions next year —including our School Captains and SRC President and members. Leadership plays such an important role at Wedderburn College, and we’re excited to see the next group of student leaders step up and make their mark.
Mr G’s Study Tip – Look After Yourself!
Exam time is here, remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as studying hard.
✅ Take short breaks to clear your head.
💧 Stay hydrated and fuel your body with good food.
😴 Get proper rest — a focused mind beats a tired one.
🚶 Move a little every day — it helps you think more clearly.
A healthy mind and body are your best study tools — stay balanced, stay kind to yourself, and keep going strong!
