An update on Michiyo Sensei’s visit
Students enjoyed last week’s origami activities, which certainly required patience and determination at times!
This week, Michiyo Sensei will again visit the Scotsburn Campus to lead more Japanese cultural activities.
At the Buninyong Campus, students in Grades 3–6 are experiencing the beautiful process of Japanese calligraphy by painting the kanji for heart, which is read kokoro (心) in Japanese. Our Prep–2 students are taking part in a typical first-grade handwriting activity—an important building block for future calligraphy skills. They have been learning to write the word tsukushi (つくし). Tsukushi is a delightful springtime plant in Japan and also a simple, beginner-friendly word to write in Japanese.
