PRINCIPAL'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

We are about to enter the season of Advent which prepares us for Christmas where we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Christmas quite literally means the mass of Christ; we cannot have Christmas without thinking about Christ.  It is the time of the year we remember the blessing that Jesus brought to the Earth.  It is at Christmas that we reflect on Jesus’ message to the world.

According to Pope Francis, the birth of Jesus at Christmas is the 'newness' that enables us to be reborn each year and to find, in Jesus, the strength needed to face every trial ...

Yes, God came into the world as a child to make us children of God - What a magnificent gift!  God amazes us and says to each of us: 'You are amazing’.

The love of Jesus can transform our life, heal our deepest hurts and set us free from the vicious circles of disappointment, anger and constant complaint ... Jesus was born in a lowly manger of a darkened stable.  He came into the world as each child comes into the world, weak and vulnerable, so that we can learn to accept our weaknesses with tender love."

Jesus’ teachings were simple and wise. As written in John 13 - Love one another as I have loved you. And at Christmas we look for ways to embrace this message.

In Catholic schools we give witness to Jesus, we strive to live out God’s values and to show others that when they encounter each of us, we respond in a Christ like way, that is to bring love to this world. Love one another as I love you!

This Christmas, we wish you all the blessings of the season and hope that you will have a blessed and holy Christmas with a happy and safe New Year.

God bless

Kerry

CYCLONE PREPAREDNESS PLAN 2025/2026 - ADVICE TO PARENTS

When it comes to extreme weather events in Queensland, it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. The average number of tropical cyclones for our region each year is three, with one of these making landfall (on average). St Mary’s Catholic College is currently undertaking steps to prepare for the upcoming cyclone season, including ensuring contacts are up to date and accurate, to assist in communications in the event of a severe weather event. We may be in contact to confirm details.

Whilst these events can always be distressing, as Queenslanders we always show a strong resilience and community spirit, and through this, we always get through. If our school is affected by a cyclone, storm surge or other event, we will keep you apprised of the school’s situation through SMS and Email in line with state and local emergency advice.

We can’t control or prevent these events, but we can be prepared. We recommend that every family gets prepared with the Get Ready Queensland initiative here, and create their own Dangerous Weather Emergency Plan here.
