Foundation News

We have been preparing for this week for some time now and we are very excited to launch our Home Reading Program!
Our preparations have included learning what our letters look like, the sounds we match to these letters and the picture and cued articulation prompts to help us remember these.
The Foundation children have also been learning how to sound out words and remember some Tricky Words. Tricky Words are the words we haven't learnt to sound out yet but we need them for our reading and writing.
We sound out words by saying each sound from left to right, and then blending the sounds together to read the whole word.
We have been using our school reader satchels to look after the library books we borrow weekly and now these will also used for our Home Reading items. The reader satchels now need to travel to and from school every day so each child can participate in our daily reading program.
Children need lots of practise as they learn and grow in confidence as readers. Here are some tips to support your family as you begin home reading:
- Develop a regular home reading routine
- Choose a time when you and your child can focus
- Choose a space where you and your child can focus
- Encourage your child to have a go
- Praise your child's efforts
- Keep checking Seesaw for updates from your classroom teacher about home reading
Miss Muller, Ms Mayes and Rick are looking forward to beginning the Home Reading Program with our Foundation families!
