LIBRARY NEWS
Big thanks to Andrea and El, members of our Education Support Team, who have been integral in ensuring our library continues to tick while Sophie has been on leave.
Students continue to visit the library on a weekly basis, where teachers facilitate explicit shared reading opportunities. Classes borrow books, either for home or class tubs, linked to areas of learning and interest.
Well done to our library captains, Billie, Ciara and Lucy, who open the library to our students multiple lunch times throughout the week. They are busy planning a BBPS version of the Premier's Reading Challenge, which they will launch in term 3. More information to come.
Check out some of the fabulous new books in our library - Lamont Books will again provide reosurces for our annual book fair, later in the year.

Animation in Gr 5/6
Safi and Alistair "We were making a stop motion animation using a little character and blue tac to help them stay in place. The story is about a little guy who jumps on a dinosaur. The dinosaur runs around. A car comes and scares the dinosaur. We took a series of photos, with the characters moving slowly before each photo was taken. Then we used an app to compile the photos into an animation and iMovie to add sound effects. It took us about 40 minutes to make and the run time is 30 seconds."

Sustainability and the Kitchen Garden 3-6
Above: Kai "First we got a plant and then we got to choose a flower. We grew it in a pot and watered it every day. Yesterday we planted borage because we want to improve the soil. "
STEM inventions Gr 5/6
Below: Aydin "I am tryng to drop a ping pong into a cup. Me and Lucas built a ramp and we had a funnel and we wanted to pop a balloon and get the ping pong ball into the cup. Our problems were that the hole was too small and funnel wouldn't always drop the ball through. My solution was to tape another cup to the funnel and make more space for the ball to drop through."
Tallulah "My invention was a dog food dispenser. We used a balloon, pipe cleaners, straws and a cup. One of our challenges was trying to make the dog food dispenser open. We are still trying to find a solution for that problem. We are considering adding a different cup and tipping it over when it is upside down"
Town Planning and Mathematics, 3/4
Above: Luke "We were trying to plan a town. We made cubes to represent parts of a house. We had a huge map and we used the cubes to show the houses. We had a hospital, a Woolworths, streets, sidewalks, and a shopping mall."
Rubix Cube, Mathematics Challenge 5/6
Below: Ori "We were doing a thing for Enrichment. It was the maths about the Rubix cube. We created a net to work out how many possible combinations there were to solve a Rubix cube. We also created a number line to show how the record breaking accelerated over time. We are finishing off our posters showing our learning.

Phonics
Florence "We have whitboards and magnetic letters. We are given a word to spell and we have to find the letters. We use the sounds to help us find the right letters."
Breaking News
Louis: "I made a diorama of a hammerhead shark. I spoke to the class about the hammerhead shark. Hammerhead sharks pin down their head to eat meals. They eat fish, and their favourite meal to eat is rays. I like presenting to the class because I did a lot of research and had a lot of detail."
William: "I made a poster about penguins. I researched. We read a lot of books about penguins."
Grade 1 and 2
Wacky Wednesday in Grade 2 - our teachers are so funny in Grade 2, we love Dr Suess' Wacky Wednesday book.
Biological Science: Animals
Rafi and Miles: Ms B was making a poster and was looking up facts about Tigers, Gorillas and Orangutans. We then gathered our own information and wrote it down in a table. We have been learning about the different classifications for animals. At the moment we are mostly learning about mammals.
Rafi: A fun fact is that a male Gorilla weighs 240kgs
Miles: A fun fact is that Gorillas are the biggest ape.

Grade 2 students created their own animals. They used their knowledge of habitats, features (adaptations), and diet when designing their animals.
Max L "I combined a cat and a dog and it became a Catdoge. It can hunt and kill humans and animals. It lives in the dark forest. It is the deadliest and toughest animal in the world."
Jamie "My creature is the Dragmimin. It shoots out spiky carrots. It lives in an old castle and it eats fish and carrots. It can camouflage. It has a spiky tail for catching fish and spiky wings to chop trees. "
Grade 3 and 4
Wheelchair Basketball
Charlotte K "First of all I thought it was going to be quite hard, but then they showed us and when we got used to it it was easy. It was extremely fun. The best part was the basketball game because we played in teams and the teams were good and it was fun to play with the actual wheelchairs."
Ryder "It was challenging to move the wheelchair while trying to pick up the basketball. I also really enjoyed the match because it was crazy and everyone was all crowded together. I would definitely like to try it again!"
