MILGATE'S VISION

To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

UPDATE TO MILGATE'S 1:1 IPAD PROGRAM

Following a recent review of our Digital Learning approach, Milgate Primary School will shift the start of the 1:1 iPad Program from Year 3 to Year 4, beginning in 2026.

This change reflects our belief that Year 4 is a more developmentally appropriate time for students to take on the responsibility of managing a personal device. It also allows for more intentional integration of technology aligned with curriculum needs.

Key information:

  • Year 3 students will continue to have regular access to school-owned iPads.
  • A 1:2 iPad-to-student ratio will remain in place for Foundation to Year 3 in 2026.
  • iPad BYOD Program for Year 4 -6 students in 2026

We believe this adjustment will strengthen student learning and wellbeing by ensuring technology is used purposefully across all year levels.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

YEAR 1 DANCE INCURSION

As part of our current inquiry into How We Express Ourselves, our Year 1 students are exploring the ways in which the Arts can be used as a powerful form of self-expression. To support this learning, students are taking part in a series of engaging workshops run by The Nikki Visage Movement.

Through these sessions, students are being introduced to a variety of dance styles including Broadway, Indigenous Australian, and Hip Hop. Each workshop provides an opportunity for students to learn about the cultural significance, movements, and stories behind each genre, while also encouraging them to express their own ideas and emotions through dance.

The incursion has been a vibrant and energetic way to deepen students' understanding of how movement can communicate feelings, ideas, and identity.

CURRICULUM DAY FOCUSED ON COLLABORATION, ACCURACY, AND SUPPORT

Our recent Curriculum Day was dedicated to ensuring accuracy, consistency, and collaboration in how we assess and support our students.

Teachers worked in year level teams to moderate student work and finalise reports, ensuring that assessments of achievement are both fair and consistent across the school. This collaborative process helps maintain high expectations for all students while recognising their individual progress.

We also continued our important work with behavioural consultant Dan Petro, building on strategies introduced during our previous Curriculum Day. Staff worked together to develop and refine clear, proactive support plans for students who require additional assistance with regulation and engagement. These plans are designed to be practical, consistent and responsive to student needs.

In addition, a number of Student Support Group meetings were held throughout the day to strengthen collaboration between classroom and specialist teachers. These meetings play a vital role in ensuring shared understanding, aligned approaches, and wraparound support for our students.

We are proud of the collective commitment of our staff to professional learning and student wellbeing. Days like these are vital in ensuring that every child is known, supported, and challenged to thrive.

DISCOVERY DAY, SESSION 1

Today, we held a Discovery session for prospective 2026 Foundation students. Kinder children were invited to participate in fun, hands-on learning activities in the classrooms with some of our Foundation teachers. These fantastic sessions provide children with an opportunity to explore and experience school life in the classroom context while building their confidence and enthusiasm toward school.

Throughout Term 3, we will also have ‘Storytime’ sessions held in the library. Our Foundation teachers and our Library Technician will engage the students in some wonderful stories and fun activities. Storytime sessions will be held on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of August.
