Year 9-10 Carpentry
Term 2 Week 6
The students have taken up the opportunity to learn new skills and gain invaluable experience learning from Industry experts at TAFE NSW in Wagga, as part of the Trade Readiness in Carpentry course - funded and delivered in partnership by the NSW Government, Regional Industry Education Partnerships and TAFE NSW.
Five students across Years 9 and 10 have learned about the building and construction industry and the potential career pathways, through hands-on activities and tailored training. The students have joined participants from other local schools and worked in a team to construct a large cubby house from scratch, and all boys said they were really enjoying their week when Mr Forbes-Taber dropped in to see how they were progressing.
Building and Construction Head Teacher Graham Hewson stated that “this week long program at the TAFE NSW Building and Construction Training Centre is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience first-hand the range of skills, knowledge and techniques they can develop and use in a career in the Carpentry trade”. It is hoped that the students can take this experience and grow it into potential apprenticeship and employment pathways in the coming years.
