1/2B Term 2

MATHS

Earlier in the term we focused on the topic of Length. We compared, measured and estimated the length of different objects in our classrooms. During the unit we used language such as shorter than, the same, longer than. We even compared the heights of students in our class, using informal units of measurement such as yarn and standing back to back.

PBL

Last week in PBL we focused on ‘persevering when things are hard’. This is part of our value of Resilience. As a class we unpacked and discussed what it means to be persistent and that persisting when things are hard helps us to develop our own strategies to help us face and overcome challenges. It also helps to develop a positive mindset. We thought about and came up with some phrases such as:

Practise, practise, practise

Not quitting - keep trying

Hold your head up

We can practise this strategy during all learning times, when we’re trying something new and during specialist classes!

RE

We have been learning about the feast of Pentecost and the importance placed on this event in the Catholic Church.  We learnt that Pentecost is a time after Jesus went to Heaven that God sent a special helper called the ‘Holy Spirit’.  A mighty wind sounded and flames appeared on the disciples' heads.

The word Pentecost comes from the Greek word ‘pentekoste’ which means fiftieth. This is because Pentecost is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter which is also fifty days after Easter. It marks the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, empowering them to proclaim the gospel and live out the Church's mission.
