Grade 5/6

Grade 5/6 have been busy bees over the past two weeks! We have officially finished part one of our whole class text, ‘Us Mob Walawarru’ and have enjoyed getting to know the characters in the novel. Our factual recounts of the 1967 Referendum in Australia are taking place, and students have increased their ability to transform notes into detailed sentences. Whilst we have worked as a class to write paragraphs on life in Australia prior to the referendum, as well as significant events leading up the referendum, the next step is for students to attempt to independently transform their own notes into their third body paragraph, on life after the referendum.
Over the past few weeks, Grade 5/6 students have become confident mathematicians, confidently applying their order of operations knowledge and solving problems involving algebra! Some very impressive expression writing and equation solving has been done, and students are to be commended for their efforts! We have now started our next unit on measurement. Please encourage your child to explore measurement at home, whether that be tracking their height, identifying the mass of items in the kitchen or capacity of items in the fridge. Making connections between mathematics concepts and real life is an amazing way to strengthen understanding!
Congratulations as well to all students who have been completing their homework to a high standard and in a timely manner! It is fabulous to see such a wonderful effort being placed into homework tasks, and thank you to all parents who take the time to support their child’s reading accuracy and fluency by listening to them read each night!
