Grade 4/5

Over the last two weeks, we have been focusing on the value of Resilience! The students have been unpacking what resilience means, and they have been awarded extra school tokens when they have displayed this value.  It has been wonderful to see evidence of resilience in the classroom when the students are presented with challenging learning tasks as well as out in the playground making positive choices and responding appropriately to social situations. Friday is 5-point token day in the 4/5 room with students awarded 5 points when they display the value of resilience!

In Literacy, the students have continued to enjoy reading and responding to our class text Uncle Xbox. I have been impressed with the student’s willingness to read in front of their peers. The students then work with sentence kernels e.g., "Mum smiled at Dusty” analysing and then expanding them to include how, when, who, what, how and where.

In Numeracy, we have enjoyed rounding numbers to the closest 10, 100 and 1000. The students rolled dice to create a 4-6-digit number and then rounded this number to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. They have become very good at it and have enjoyed reading and working with some large numbers.

In our science lessons we have continued to look at erosion. This week, the students were lucky enough to watch a video on the different types of erosion that can occur through water, wind, ice and gravity. We then went outside to find evidence of erosion in our environment.

In Humanities, the students have finished their questions and answers related to the different countries around the world. We have all learnt some interesting facts including the largest most populated capital city in the world is Beijing and that Mount Everest is growing by up to 2mm per year due to erosion from an ancient river.
