Year 10 Excursion
Melbourne Holocaust Museum and Shrine of Remembrance
Our Year 10 excursion to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum and the Shrine of Remembrance was one of the most eye-opening and emotional experiences I’ve had.
At the Holocaust Museum, we explored powerful exhibits filled with real artifacts — letters, photos, and belongings that told the stories of people who lived through unimaginable times. The most unforgettable part was meeting Paul Grinwald, a Holocaust survivor. Hearing his personal story of surviving Nazi persecution was incredibly moving. It made the history feel real — not just something from a book, but something that happened to real people like him.
Later, we visited the Shrine of Remembrance, built to honour those who fought and died in wars, especially World War I. Inside, we explored the museum and art gallery, where we saw more stories, uniforms, and items from soldiers' lives. There was a quiet respect in the air — a space made for remembering and honouring the fallen.
We ended the day on the balcony of the Shrine, where the views of Melbourne were absolutely stunning. It was a peaceful and thoughtful way to finish the day.
This excursion reminded me how important it is to remember the past — not just to learn facts, but to connect with the human stories behind them.
