Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. This week all classes have been learning about Reconciliation Week and it’s significance.

Our Prep students are currently undertaking a unit on Indigenous Culture and Dreamtime stories. They have learnt how to appropriately acknowledge country, read and explore Dreamtime Stories and had a chance to utilise the Yarning Circle set up in the Red Room. Last week our Prep and Year 5 Buddies session had a focus on creating a shared display to acknowledge the land that Croydon Hills Primary School is on.

All families are invited to our Whole School Assembly at 2:45pm tomorrow, which will have an enhanced focus on Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week.

Path from Yarrunga - Thank You CHAPS

The enhancement of our path to the Yarrunga Community Centre carpark has begun this week. There shouldn't be too many disruptions to normal foot traffic as community members are still able to walk along the grass.

We would like to acknowledge our parents' association, CHAPs, who are delivering this project for the school. Firstly, they sought out the Maroondah Council to complete the works (on council land) and then lobbied them to provide a quote to extend the works through the school. Their Mother's Day Stall, Bunnings BBQ, Election BBQ and Easter Raffle fundraising has raised $13,028. This will cover our school's costs for the extended path! Well done CHAPs. We're looking forward to the Disco and then Trivia Night for some fun and further fundraising (will go towards new CHPS Sunshades).

Sayembara Lisan - Indonesian Speaking and Listening Competition

Well done to all students who participated in the speaking competition on Tuesday. They answered questions and recited a poem in Indonesian. Bu Dowling (the assessor) was very impressed with how well every student spoke, answered questions and participated.

We are proud of everyone who entered, it takes lots of practice and determination to enter a competition like this. Congratulations to the six students who have made it through to the State Finals on the 14th of June. Thank you to Bu Webster and Bu Curcio for supporting the students through encouragement, practice and providing our students with this fabulous opportunity to use their Indonesian speaking skills.
