Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY:

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.  Don’t forget to record your book for the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Mathematics: Students are to work on the recall of their x12 multiplication facts. You may like to create flash cards or skip count aloud with your child to help support their learning with this.

Inquiry: Continue talking with your child about how both human actions and natural events change the Earth's surface, including erosion.

Current and Upcoming Learning

Reader’s Workshop:  Students will continue reading information reports that connect to our new inquiry topic of humans and events and how they impact changes in the Earth’s surface. The focus will be on developing research skills and evaluating the reliability of sources.

Writer’s Workshop: In our unit of inquiry, students will inquire into the structures and features of information reports and persuasive texts. There will be a focus on enhancing our research skills, finding keywords and learning how to paraphrase information effectively.

Mathematics: We are continuing to explore fractions, learning how to represent them, finding equivalent fractions and comparing them. This foundational knowledge will support our upcoming work on decimals and percentages, as we make connections between fractional, decimal and percentage representations.

Inquiry: Our Unit of Inquiry for ‘Sharing the Planet’ is now underway. The central idea for this is, “Living things adapt to physical changes on Earth to survive, influencing and being influenced by natural processes”. Students will create an information presentation to record their understandings.

SACSA SOCCER:

This event will be held at Barratt Reserve, Military Road, West Beach, on Thursday 19th June.

All students are required to be at school by 7:00 am. The carnival finishes at 3:30 pm and students will be leaving West Beach Ovals at this time and hope to return to GGLPS by 4:20 pm.

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform, have a packed recess and lunch as well as have plenty of water to drink.

It is compulsory for all students to wear shin pads and soccer boots for this carnival. Without soccer boots or shin pads, students will not be allowed on the soccer pitch. If your child doesn’t have any shin pads, please let us know as we do have some sets at school.

Please ensure the permission form has been signed.

Thank you

Glow Week:

Just a reminder that you are invited to our GLOW Week Celebration afternoon on Friday 27th June. This begins at 2pm in the Worship Centre.

We would love to see you there to celebrate and share in the learning that has occurred during this week.

We would love donations of cardboard pieces/boxes for our activities across the school. Please send them in as soon as they are available.
