Child Safety

Child Safe Standard 9: Children and young people are informed about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously

At St John’s, we:

  • Actively involve students in decisions that impact them through structures like the Student Representative Council (SRC) and regular class discussions.
  • Ensure students know their rights to feel safe, respected, and heard at school.
  • Promote a culture where students are encouraged to speak up—through wellbeing check-ins, class circles, and teacher-led conversations.
  • Embed the Respectful Relationships curriculum, which helps students understand boundaries, consent, and how to seek help.
  • Display child-friendly resources and posters that explain rights and available support.

Child Safe Standard 10: Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing

At St John’s, we:

  • Partner with families by providing clear communication through newsletters, nForma updates, and parent information sessions.
  • Encourage parent involvement in the life of the school, including classroom help, excursions and PIC community events that reinforce our shared responsibility for child safety.
  • Seek family feedback through surveys and meetings to guide continuous improvement.
  • Share child safety policies and practices openly and make them accessible via our school website and office.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies and the wider community to promote a safe and inclusive environment for all children.
