Celebrating Reconciliation Week at Hampshire House: "Now More Than Ever"

Our children have been joyfully and meaningfully engaging with National Reconciliation Week 2025, embracing this year’s powerful theme: “Now More Than Ever.” Through hands-on experiences and thoughtful conversations, the children are learning about the importance of acknowledging and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and histories.

In the spirit of Reconciliation, our children have been working together on creating several collaborative artworks, inspired by traditional Indigenous art styles and the concept of unity. Each of our children in Preschool Grey contributed to the mural using paint, natural objects, and symbols that they had learned about, representing the idea that "we all belong" and that reconciliation is a shared journey.

The children were also introduced to Indigenous symbols and storytelling, discovering how images can be used to represent people, animals, journeys, and places. Using sand trays, symbols and natural materials the children experimented with creating their own stories, deepening their appreciation for the unique ways Indigenous Australians have communicated for thousands of years. We ended our week of celebrations enjoying our beautiful Indigenous bush tucker garden that we created together last year. Our garden is a lovely, living classroom where the children can connect with Indigenous culture, through the land itself. It fosters respect for native plants, traditional knowledge and sustainable practices, helping children understand the deep relationship Indigenous peoples have with country. It further supports cultural awareness and environmental stewardship, offering a peaceful space for reflection and storytelling 

In celebrating Reconciliation Week, our children build a foundation of respect, understanding, and inclusiveness from an early age. As we reflect on the theme "Now More Than Ever," our children at Hampshire House are reminded that every small action and every question, every artwork and every story shared is contributing to a more united future for all Australians.
